Big Gig Enables Big Park!

Big Gig Enables Big Park!

The funds generated from the ticket sales for Channel 103fm’s Big Gig in the Park, in aid of Help a Jersey Child and supported by Airtel-Vodafone, will be put towards the development of a woodland project in the Parish of St Helier. This is thanks to a substantial investment from Help a Jersey Child who have donated the ticket proceeds to make the initiative happen and will benefit hundreds of islanders.

Development will begin this autumn to the woodland environment situated directly behind St. Ewolds Residential Home and Avranches Day Nursery. The developments aim to help preserve the area and protect the inhabitants, whilst encouraging a love and understanding of nature amongst islanders.

A specific educational space named ‘The Forest School Area’ will be of particular interest to children and young people. Once transformed, it will be a wonderful educational setting that can be used throughout the year with children being able to learn about the natural world using eco-friendly materials to develop their practical, social and intellectual skills.

Children from nurseries, schools and activity groups will be able to enjoy the area which will lend itself to a host of fun and exciting activities, whilst the development of an adjoining community area will offer rest and picnic areas for all islanders to appreciate the tranquillity of the woodland setting.

It is thanks to islanders, going out and buying tickets for The Big Gig in the Park, which has enabled Help a Jersey Child to raise enough funds for this inspirational project to get off the ground.

Hearing Technology

Hearing Technology

Hidden Hearing, a UK leader in private hearing healthcare for 40 years, is bringing leading experts; Tony Vaughan RHAD, Michael Colclough RHAD and Bill Behich RHAD to Jersey this month to run a free, specialist hearing clinic. All are fully trained in the latest technology and techniques for hearing assessment and will be on hand throughout the three day event, which is being held at Longueville Manor from Monday 12th July – Wednesday 14th July 2010, to offer advice on every type of hearing system available, tailoring their advice specific to each attendee’s assessment.

These sessions coincide with the release of industry research that shows that there are almost nine million hearing impaired people in the UK, and this number is on the rise (Royal National Institute of Deaf People).  Statistics also highlight that one in seven people in the UK are deaf or hard of hearing therefore strengthening the importance of early detection, assessment and management of hearing problems as vital to personal, educational and social achievement in the longer term. Hearing defects affect the quality of life of millions of Britons, but the technology now exists to improve their situation dramatically.

100 islanders will be given an opportunity to attend the Hearing Health Awareness event with Hidden Hearing so those interested should call Freephone 08007316499 to book their place.

Launch of Orchid Training

Launch of Orchid Training

To coincide with our move to state-of-the-art offices in the heart of St Helier from 1st June 2010, we're delighted to launch a full suite of communications training courses.

Communications training is an essential ingredient for successful companies in today’s tough business environment. As you strive to improve both your business and personal performance, how can you develop your communication skills to ensure your messages are standing out from the crowd; being heard in the right way, at the right time?

If any of these scenarios trigger painful and frustrating memories, we're here to help:

  • When did you last switch off in a presentation because the speaker was dull, meandering through uninspiring slides or simply waffled on too long? Was that speaker you?

  • When did you last watch a company representative stutter, um and err through a media interview without clearly getting the corporate message across? Was that interviewee you?

  • When did you last read an article or report that was poorly written, grammatically incorrect and littered with spelling mistakes? Was that author you?

To find out more about any of Orchid's training services do have a look through the training section of our website. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss your requirements, and the courses in more details, so that the ideal solution can be created for you and your business. Please give Allan a call on 888994 or email allan@orchid.je.

The Value of PR

Orchid Directors Allan and Sam had a productive and inspiring day in London meeting, amongst others, the Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA) crew.  What a great bunch of people!

We value our membership of the PRCA highly and it was good to meet Director General Francis Ingham and his membership, events and education teams.  Whilst there, we took the opportunity to interview Francis to hear his views on the value of PR in a downturn, and also how he feels evaluation of PR is likely to develop as more emphasis is placed on showing return on investment.

Our focus now is to prepare for our PRCA Consultancy Management Standard audit in September which we believe will reinforce the excellence and quality of the Orchid offering to our clients, both on and off island.
