The annual Asburton Rugby Camp has been and gone and has once again been a huge success. Candidates from ages ranging between eight up to 16, took part in the week long camp, held in St Peters. This year however, joining the camp and some of the
top academy coaches from Premiership club Leicester Tigers some
overseas players, as part of an exchange programme set up by the Education, Sport and Culture department.
Joining the 100 local youngsters were 3 schoolboys from France, who had travelled to Jersey from Manche and Normandy with their coach for the weeks event. Kevin Lemasney, Jersey RFC academy chairman, explained "Jersey and Manche have a special relationship across all aspects of education, sport and culture. During a meeting at Durrell it was suggested that an exchange could be set up through the rugby and we thought that the Ashburton rugby camp would be an ideal platform."
